Book Review 133 "The Big House" by Max Kitsch (Макс Кич, "Большой Дом") Text book in Russian. I doubt that you will ever find this one in English. Moustly, because its a fan fiction. And a very weird kind of it! "Tree from Prostokvashino" is a short series of Soviet children cartoons. About a boy with a nickname "uncle Theodor", who has tired to live in a city with his parents (especially, of the fact that they do not allow him to keep pets), and moved to a village, and occupied an abandoned house, where he started a new live with a talking cat and a dog. All by himself. This cartoon is available on Youtube, even with an English translation. Nothing special, but it have a HUGE fan base. Also, this series was continued in a modern Russia, but many people are considered this sequel "uncanonical". The book I am reviewing is following the general plot of this cartoon. But retelling the story in a VERY dark, lovecraftian manner. There are hundreds of references to many various sources: from fairy tales for toddlers to Necronomicon and Witches Hammer. And there is no happy end. In general, I don't like horrors. But this one, overwhelmed with references and jokes, was quite exciting. So, if you was born in Soviet Union, like grim tales and horrors and jokes and also found of a literature, where references are more important than a plot, you'll definitely like this book. But if you'll start to read it, remember: it'll became darker and darker up to the end.
