Book Review 152 "The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook" by Matt Dinniman 3rd book in "Dungeon Crawler Carl" series (books 1 and 2 were reviewed in Review 140 and 149). Carl is continuing his dungeon crawl on the 4th level. At the beginning of this book he had some of his advantages over other crawlers temporarily removed, which spices things up. Also, this 4th level is not your typical dungeon location, but the general theme continues. This new location has a lot of unique rules and tricks, so the game mechanics is getting more and more complex. More factors to consider won't let you to get bored. The events of external universe, where the alien game masters reside, are scarce. But we will get to know this complex world eventually. In my previous review, I haven't mentioned the particular audio version of this book I am listening. But it is another distinction of this book, the audio is also very, very good. It's a single person narration, but he is not just doing voices, there are numerous sound effects, which are emerging you in the atmosphere of this world. Seems like the author is working closely with this audio studio, and just because of the narration quality I am considering to add more their audiobooks in my playlist. Another thing worth mentioning which I've realized after several books in this series, is that author is really working on this book. He is not just writing it chapter by chapter, he is making a plan, meticulously tracking all the stats, items and other game details, and do not hesitate to return to a previous chapter and change it if it will allow him to twist the final plot even more. I am as a reader really appreciate that. One thing it to roll smoothly through the book, and another is to ride a head spinning rollercoaster, like in this case.
